Make fun of the Seattle Seahawks all you want, San Francisco 49ers fans, one thing is sure: their home stadium, Lumen Field, is not the easiest place to play in. The place is loud and filled with 1-2 fans who take their jobs of being noisy very seriously.
But that might be changing. Vivid Seats’ “Fan Forecast” projects 53 percent of Sunday’s crowd will be 49ers fans, per multiple beat reports. Those of you who haven’t repressed previous games going all the way back to Jim Harbaugh’s tenure are probably
wondering how this is possible.
49ers fans have already traveled well to Seattle, and the fanbase is well-represented in enemy territory. Up here, the Seattle Niners Faithful club organizes a meet-up to welcome the arriving 49ers players in the Puget Sound near the airport, and several bars in the area are configured for 49ers fans.
The bigger thing is the West Coast takeover the 49ers fans have. There’s already the stadium previously known as SoFi Stadium, where the Los Angeles Rams play. I say “previously” because that place has been christened “Levi’s South.” Rarely do Rams fans outnumber 49ers fans when the two teams square off.
So could this be a sign that Lumen is becoming “Levi’s North”? Maybe. There have been rebuttals to the Vivid Seats ratios, but none that really stick—so take them with a grain of salt.
Given how noisy Lumen Field can get (to the point where just getting in the huddle is a challenge), 49ers fans can take whatever they can get.
But if the 49ers fans do outnumber Seahawks fans, that might mean the bandwagon conversation for Seattle can be brought back up.
