Player of the day
Outfielder Chris Newell drove in seven of Tulsa’s eight runs thanks to a grand slam in the fifth inning and a three-run home run in the seventh.
It’s the third two-home run game for Newell in eight days.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
Jackson Ferris allowed seven runs and recorded eight outs in the Comets’ loss to the Reno Aces (D-backs).
Ryan Fitzgerald
had four hits. James Tibbs III homered and singled.
Nick Frasso struck out five in two scoreless innings in his best outing of the season.
Teoscar Hernández for the first time this week did not homer, but did walk twice. He’ll likely be activated from the injured list Monday in West Sacramento, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Saturday in San Diego.
Double-A Tulsa
Newell drove in seven runs, and Payton Martin pitched seven scoreless innings in the Drillers’ win over the Corpus Christi Hooks (Astros). Martin, who joined Adam Serwinowski from Friday to give Tulsa consecutive starts of four scoreless innings, had four strikeouts and three walks, and has lasted at least six innings in four of his last five starts.
Zyhir Hope reached base four times with a single and three walks. Josue De Paula singled twice, walked, and stole his 20th base of the season.
High-A Great Lakes
The Loons scored eight runs in the second inning, then held on to beat the Lansing Lugnuts (A’s).
Chase Harlan has taken well to the Midwest League, and hit his first two home runs for Great Lakes in a four-hit, five-RBI game that also included a double. Eduardo Quintero homered and singled.
Brooks Auger allowed a run in 5 1/3 innings in his longest start of the season, though he only struck out a season-low one with two walks.
Class-A Ontario
The Tower Buzzers scored four runs in the first inning and held on to beat the Visalia Oaks (D-backs).
Jesus Tillero struck out eight in six scoreless innings, with no walks.
Joendry Vargas hit a two-run home run in that four-run first. Easton Shelton doubled, singled, and drove in three.
