Matchroom Boxing has unveiled a pair of shows to lead its late-year offerings, with Ben Whittaker vs Benjamin Gavazi headlining a November 29th card in Birmigham and Peter McGrail vs Shabaz Masoud leading
the way in Monte Carlo a week later.
Whittaker (9-0-1, 6 KO) signed with Matchroom last week after a long stint with Boxxer and will take a bold step sideways against Germany’s Gavazi (19-1, 13 KO), a 30-year-old who lost his pro debut in 2018 and subsequently committed himself to beating up random sub-Euro dudes a few times per year.
The undercard notably sees Cameron Vuong (9-0, 4 KO) run back last year’s controversial decision over Gavin Gwynne (18-4-1, 5 KO) and UFC vet Molly McCann (1-0, 1 KO) make her second appearance in the ring.
Not sure what the poster has to do with anything, but I do love that these guys’ first instinct on seeing a humanoid figure emerge through a rent in space and time is to pull guns on it.
McGrail (12-1, 6 KO) and Masoud (14-0, 4 KO) were supposed to meet in June before the latter withdrew due to injury, leaving McGrail to battle past professional headache Ionut Baluta instead. These are two of the UK’s best at 122 and I’m glad to see them once again on a collision course.
The co-feature sees two-time Olympic medalist Beatriz Ferreira (8-0, 2 KO) defend her IBF lightweight title against Turkish vet Elif Nur Turhan (11-0, 1 KO), BoxRec’s no. 2 in the division. Conah Walker (16-3-1, 7 KO) also sees action against Pat McCormack (8-0, 6 KO), while Johnny Fisher (13-1, 11 KO) looks to start his comeback tour against Ugandan big man Herbert Matovu (9-1, 8 KO).
