Despite the fact its main event was a #1 contenders match between Lola Vice and Kendal Grey, when NXT went off the air last night we were still in the dark about who would challenge the WWE developmental brand’s Women’s champion Jacy Jayne this Saturday (April 4) at Stand & Deliver. That was because, well, I’ll just copy and paste from the best dang live blogger in the business’ live blog for Tuesday’s premium live event go home show:
Grey pulls her to center of ring, Vice counters to a victory roll
pin for two! Jackknife from Kendal for two, guillotine choke from Lola, Grey flagging, fading, not failing, getting back to her knees, struggling to the corner, tornado roll through with the choke, Kendal gets to one knee, fighting… NORTHERN LIGHTS SUPLEX COUNTERS AND THE BRIDGE FINISHES HER OFF! IT’S OVER!
Or is it, because Darryl Sharma rolls in and talks to the other referee because he saw Grey tap to the guillotine choke right as the pin counted three!
The crowd is feeling feisty apparently because the audio drops out entirely.
“Heartbreak Man” Shawn Michaels comes down to presumably solve the situation, chatting with both referees and both competitors while Fatal Influence hang on the apron yelling and carrying on.
We don’t get an answer for who is number one contender before the show goes off the air.
Don’t worry though, freshly appointed General Manager Robert Stone got it sorted out. Only took him 22 hours or so to come up with what everyone watching guessed in about 22 seconds, but he’s still getting the hang of what doesn’t seem like a fun job. Per Stone, the PLE in St. Louis will have a Triple Threat NXT Women’s title match with both Vice and Gray taking on Jayne.
Neither Gray or Vice has been NXT Women’s champion. Ex-MMA pro Vice has never held a WWE championship, but is an AAA Mixed Tag titleholder. Former amateur wrestler Grey just vacated the Evolve Women’s belt when she was promoted to NXT.
With that, Saturday’s card looks like so:
- Joe Hendry (c) vs. Ricky Saints vs. Ethan Page vs. Tony D’Angelo for NXT championship
- Jacy Jayne (c) vs. Kendal Grey vs. Lola Vice for NXT Women’s championship
- Tatum Paxley (c) vs. Blake Monroe for the NXT Women’s North American championship
- Sol Ruca vs. Zaria
- Myles Borne (c) vs. Johnny Gargano for the NXT Men’s North American championship
- The Vanity Project (c) vs. Los Americanos for the NXT Tag Team championship
- Birth Right (Lexis King, Stacks, Charlie Dempsey, Uriah Connors, and Arianna Grace) vs. Eli Knight, Shiloh Hill, Hank & Tank, and Wren Sinclair (pre-show)
Dig it?
