Week 5 was a tough one for the Las Vegas Raiders, with a multi-possession loss to the New England Patriots. But let’s check in on a few old friends and see how Sunday fared for Geno Smith, Tyree Wilson and Jakobi Meyers.
Geno Smith
Score: 17-12 Jets win
Stats: 17/30 (56.7%), 182 yards, 1 TD, 0 INTs
This game was certainly more of a defensive battle, as neither quarterback eclipsed 200 passing yards and neither team had even reached 300 total yards. However, the Jets did march down the field on their opening drive,
where Smith connected with wide receiver Garrett Wilson for a 32-yard touchdown. Then, Smith led a pair of fourth-quarter scoring drives — a field goal and a touchdown that was aided by a turnover — to seal the ‘W’ for New York. So, the quarterback certainly wasn’t perfect; he also was strip-sacked for a turnover, but he was enough to get the job done. That helps set the stage for a revenge game in a couple of weeks.
Tyree Wilson
Score: 23-13 Saints lose
Stats: 3 tackles
The New Orleans Saints continue to struggle, dropping their third game in a row and falling to 1-4 on the season. However, Wilson has been getting more playing time and has been decently productive over the last two weeks. He’s logged 44 defensive snaps and recorded nine total tackles and a sack during that timeframe. Not bad for a guy who didn’t see any action in Weeks 2 and 3.
Jakobi Meyers
Score: 19-17 Jaguars win
Stats: 2 catches, 37 yards
This was a crazy game where the Jacksonville Jaguars needed some last-second magic to get a win in one of their “home” games across the pond. A massive 53-yard kick return from another former Raider, Ameer Abdullah, set up a game-winning 57-yard field goal to pull off an incredible comeback. Meanwhile, Meyers had a couple of big catches — one for 18 and another for 19 yards — to help the effort. However, he hasn’t been a major factor in Jacksonville’s offense this season. He only has 13 catches for 165 yards and two touchdowns through five games, and has only posted more than 50 yards in a single game once.
