This past weekend, Nebraska brought in nine top recruits from across the country for official visits — and they got their first 2027 commit out of it from Iowa state champion Mac Crosson.
Crosson is ranked as the #42 overall wrestler in the Class of 2027 by MatScouts. As a freshman at 113 pounds, Crosson finished third at the Iowa State Tournament in class 3A, the highest classification in Iowa. As a sophomore this past season, Crosson went a perfect 32-0 on the way to his first state title at 138 pounds for Indianola High School.
Crosson will again be going up in weight after wrestling at Fargo at 144 pounds this summer. With two more high school seasons in front of him, it’s unclear how big Crosson will get before arriving on campus in 2027. but I’d expect him to be anywhere from 149 to 165 pounds as a Husker.
Crosson chose Nebraska over Iowa, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State and Oklahoma.
Nebraska is set to sign a smaller class of four wrestlers for its 2026 class, so I expect a larger class in 2027 — and it looks like the Huskers are leaving no stone unturned. During this past weekend’s recruiting visits, Nebraska brought in nine wrestlers — all of them are ranked in the Top-100 overall in their class.
Here’s a rundown of who was in town for the Michigan State football game:
- Jason Singer – the lone 2026 recruit in attendance, he took the trip with his younger brother Nicholas. Currently a Lehigh commit, Jason Singer is ranked #72 on the FloWrestling Big Board for 2026. Out of powerhouse Pennsylvania program Faith Christian, Jason Singer is ranked as the #9 215-pounder in high school this season. He’d likely wrestle at heavyweight in college.
- Jimmy Mastny – One of the most sought-after recruits in the class, Mastny ranks at #6 overall on the Flo Big Board and looks like a priority target for Nebraska. A projected 197-pounder in college, he’s also at a weight class of need for the Huskers. Out of Marian Central in Illinois, Mastny is currently ranked #5 in the country at 190 pounds.
- Paul Kenny – Out of another powerhouse program Christian Brothers in New Jersey, Kenny is ranked #8 on the 2027 Big Board and currently sits at #2 in the country at 126 pounds by Flo. A future 133 or 141-pounder, Kenny would be a huge addition for Nebraska if they can get his commitment.
- Israel Borge – The top recruit in Utah, Borge is #11 on the Flo Big Board. A guy who could be anywhere from 141 to 157 in college, Borge has Nebraska in his Top 7 at this point.
- Grey Burnett – Out of Perrysburg, Ohio, Burnett is another top-tier lightweight prospect for the Huskers. Ranked #15 on the Big Board for 2027, Burnett is ranked #3 in the country at 126 pounds. He has Nebraska in his top-3.
- Nicholas Singer – The younger brother of Jason Singer, Nicholas Singer is #18 on the 2027 Big Board and #2 in the country at 175 pounds. A future 184 or 197-pounder in college, Nicholas Singer would fill a major need for Nebraska in this class.
- Dawson Youngblut – Another top prospect out of Iowa, Youngblut is #29 on the Big Board. Nebraska has had an in-home visit with him as well. Out of Don Bosco HS, Youngblut is another lightweight prospect who projects at either 133 or 141.
- Gage Lohr – A lightweight prospect out of South Dakota, Lohr is #85 on the Flo Big Board. he likely projects as a 133-pounder.
