The UFC White House card is one step closer to being finalized.
After matchmaking for the historic event started just a few days ago, UFC CEO Dana White says the card is nearly done already and there are only a few more details that need to be ironed out. The historic event takes place on Sunday, June 14 on the south lawn of the White House with approximately 5,000 people in attendance with President Donald Trump presiding over the show as part of a planned American 250 celebration.
“We have like two
different options laid out and the matchmaking process has already started,” White said at the Zuffa Boxing 3 post-fight press conference. “We got the White House card done last week.
“We laid out two different options, I didn’t say it was done. I said the card was built.”
Obviously, White didn’t want to reveal too much, especially when it came to the “options” being considered for the card. He did admit plans to fly to Washington D.C. in the coming days to sit down with Trump and his team to put the finishing touches on the event.
That meeting may also decide how the UFC White House card is announced with White hinting that something special could be in the works in that regard, although nothing has been decided when it comes time to reveal that lineup.
“We don’t know yet [how we will announce it],” White said. “As we get closer, we’ve been kicking around a lot of ideas. Me and [Craig] Borsari actually fly to D.C. and sit down with the president and his team and start walking them through not just the production but the fight card.
“We have like three different options on all the production stuff and see what he likes and doesn’t like. This event is going to be so bad ass and so unique and so special and so expensive.”
Speculation has run wild on the format for the event in terms of total number of fights, the amount of championship bouts taking place on the card and who might end up taking one of the coveted spots for the UFC White House show.
White added “I’m not saying anything” when pressed about how many championship fights could potentially take place at the UFC White House card, but it sounds like the matchups could be announced at any time now.
