Barcelona beat Celta Vigo 4-2 on Sunday and were gifted an early goal when Marcos Alonso was penalised for handball and a penalty was awarded to the visitors.
Referee Alberola Rojas pointed to the spot
after a VAR check and the audio behind the decision has now been released.
“I recommend a review so that you can assess a potential penalty for handball. I’m going to open it for you with the point of impact and then I’m going to give you the dynamics,” the referee was told by the VAR officials.
He replied: “Okay, there I see it, the hand outstretched. I see that it is the outstretched hand. Yes, yes, yes. And the ball goes to goal. Stop it at the point of impact. Stop it, stop it, stop it. Stop it, there, at the point of impact. Yes, he has it detached, he goes to goal, it’s a penalty.”
It was a fairly simple decision in truth and one that allowed Robert Lewandowski to open the scoring from the penalty spot for Barcelona.
