The Las Vegas Raiders continue to be connected to potential trade fits at the wide receiver position.
One name to keep an eye on Chris Godwin of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They are 0-4 and could be open to trading their longtime standout. If so, the Raiders could be among the team to show interest.
Las Vegas general manager John Spytek was in Tampa Bay with Godwin for eight seasons. Plus, Raiders’ minority owner Tom Brady lauded Godwin as a teammate with the Buccaneers. So, a Raiders’ pursuit could
make sense.
Goodwin is 30 and he has 16 catches for 142 yards in four games this season. He has dealt with injuries recently as he missed a total of 18 games the past two seasons. He had three straight 1,000-plus receiving yards season and had, at least, 83 catches a season spanning 2021-23.
While he is getting older, Godwin would give the Raiders a needed veteran presence at wide receiver. Of course, he wouldn’t be a long-term answer, but he would give them needed immediate help. The truth is no wide receiver who could be available before the November 10 trade deadline will be a long-term answer as a No. 1 receiver.
So, Godwin could be a solid answer for the this and next season for the Raiders and he likely wouldn’t come at a steep asking price.
The biggest issue for the Raiders to acquire Godwin would be his contract. He is in the second of a three-year, $66 million contract. The Raiders would likely need to restructure the contract as part of the deal.
So, while this fit may not be perfect, it could be something Spytek looks into in the next month.
