Jonathan Tah wasn’t always a bonified starter for the German national team. However, with Bayer Leverkusen’s rise under Xabi Alonso, Tah saw his career completely revitalized. While oft criticized during
his career for not hitting his potential, he seemingly has reached it in the past years, and it has not gone unnoticed by Julian Nagelsmann.
This playtime with the senior squad has given him the opportunity to play with Germany’s best defenders, and possibly Germany’s brightest central defender in years, Nico Schlotterbeck. The Borussia Dortmund defender has been heavily linked the the Die Roten in recent months, and the topic came up once again on international break.
The Bayern Munich defender was recently asked whether or not he spoke to Schlotterbeck about a potential move to Vincent Kompany’s squad.
“We haven’t discussed that. It’s an exciting situation for Nico. He’s an outstanding player who always works on himself and wants to improve. It’s a crucial moment in his career. I hope he makes the right decision. All doors are open to him. If he needs advice, I’m always here,” as captured by @iMiaSanMia.
It is no surprise to see Tah play it coy with a potential transfer for Schlotterbeck, but take it with a grain of salt. Players have a long history of attempting to lure and convince fellow national teammates to their clubs, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Tah did the same.
While Tah is not likely to influence a transfer on his own, there is plenty of other Bayern talent in the room that can help paint a picture for the Dortmund defender.
Will Bayern Munich make a play for Schlotterbeck in the summer? And more importantly, can Bayern outbid or convince the top German talent over Premier League or La Liga money?
