EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Malik Nabers is “in the slog” of his rehab from last season’s torn ACL, New York Giants coach John Harbaugh said on Thursday.
“He’s in the middle of it,” Harbaugh said after the Giants held their third OTA. “It’s such a hard thing. It’s an ACL and whatever else he had in that knee. Not a simple knee.
“He’s in the slog of it, the grind of it I would say. He’s fighting through it. He’s here every day, working hard at it. Just impossible to predict. The goal is to start the season,
and get out there some time in training camp. We’ll see what happens. If he’s out there, great. If he’s not out there, great. We’ll be ready to go either way.
“I know he’s fighting like crazy to do his best to be out there,” Harbaugh said. “My experience with guys is the first time they have a serious injury it’s tough because it’s new for him. It’s a tough process.”
Valentine’s View
Nabers was injured in Week 4 of the 2025 season. It seems each time we talk to Harbaugh or GM Joe Schoen Nabers’ availability to start the 2026 season becomes less certain.
Andrew Thomas managing foot, shoulder
Star left tackle Andrew Thomas did not work on Thursday, the first OTA media had access to. Harbaugh said the oft-injured Thomas is managing shoulder and foot issues, but that he had practiced on Tuesday and Wednesday in the team’s first two OTAs.
“We’re working him back,” Harbaugh said. “It’s just part of the process.
“He doesn’t need every rep, anyway, and we’re just managing it.”
Thomas told media that the foot issue is continuing maintenance from his 2024 Lisfranc injury, but that the shoulder is a “lingering” issue that he also dealt with last season. He did not require surgery on the shoulder.
Darius Slayton had sports hernia
Veteran wide receiver Darius Slayton had surgery this offseason to repair a sports hernia that he played through last season.
“He nursed it through last season, I guess,” Harbaugh said. “I think we all agreed, let’s just get it fixed. He’ll be a hundred percent for the start of training camp.”
