Angel Reese continued her remarkable season Sunday, delivering another dominant double-double as the Atlanta Dream pulled away for a convincing 102-77 victory over the Toronto Tempo.
Reese finished with 15 points and 17 rebounds, including a career-high 11 offensive rebounds, falling just one shy of tying the WNBA single-game record. The performance marked her ninth double-double of the season and the 59th of her young career, the most by any player through their first 76 WNBA games.
The star forward,
acquired by Atlanta in April in a blockbuster trade with the Chicago Sky, has transformed the Dream into one of the league’s most physical teams. According to ESPN statistics, Reese entered Sunday’s game averaging 14.6 points and a WNBA-best 11.9 rebounds per contest. She has now grabbed at least 17 rebounds in three of Atlanta’s last four games, further cementing her status as one of the league’s elite rebounders.
While Reese controlled the paint, Allisha Gray led Atlanta offensively with 26 points and seven assists. Gray also continued climbing the franchise record book, knocking down five three-pointers to move past Angel McCoughtry for third place in Dream history with 235 career three-pointers.
Rhyne Howard added 24 points and three blocks while extending her franchise-record total to 408 career three-pointers after connecting on four shots from beyond the arc. Rookie Isobel Borlase provided a spark off the bench, scoring a career-high 17 points while shooting an efficient 5-for-6 from the field.
The victory was especially impressive considering Atlanta’s slow start. The Dream shot just 24 percent from the floor in the opening quarter and trailed by 12 points. However, Atlanta completely flipped the game in the second period, outscoring Toronto 34-14 while shooting 64 percent from the field. Gray fueled the surge with 11 points and four assists during the quarter, helping the Dream build a lead they would never relinquish.
Toronto’s Isabelle Harrison scored 17 points but was ejected early in the third quarter after being assessed a Flagrant 2 foul for a hard hit on Reese. The incident only seemed to energize Atlanta, which continued to dominate on both ends of the floor.
The win improved the Dream to 9-4 and further strengthened their position among the WNBA’s top contenders. With Reese controlling the boards, Gray and Howard providing scoring punch, and Borlase emerging as a valuable contributor, Atlanta appears poised for a deep playoff run.
