Bayern Munich still need to figure out what they’re doing with goalkeeper Alexander Nübel. After loan spells with AS Monaco and VfB Stuttgart, the German keeper is still on Bayern’s books as the German Rekordmeister are still his parent club, but it remains unclear just what, exactly, his future has in store. Stuttgart does not have plans of buying him on a permanent basis now that his loan spell is up and the keeper has made it clear he doesn’t really see a future for himself at Bayern with Manuel
Neuer having extended his contract for another year Jonas Urbig poised to eventually become the club’s number one keeper.
Per information from Bild (via @iMiaSanMia), there is increasing frustration growing internally at Bayern as the club want to sell the keeper, but are having difficulties finding proper suitors. Beşiktaş have recently shown interest in Nübel, but the keeper himself does not have any desire to go and play in Turkey. Additionally, he really only wants to play for a top club and Europe and also does not want to take too much of a pay cut wherever he winds up going. He currently earns roughly €12m per year, which Bayern cover the majority of even during his loan spells.
With the player’s own personal desires and Bayern not having much luck in the transfer market finding clubs interested in buying Nübel, it’s created a bit of a headache as the club preps for the signings of both Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt and Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven. A big part of Max Eberl’s job this summer, much like last summer, will be to try to reduce the club’s overall wage bill and his future potentially hinges on him doing so – adding more weight to figuring out what to do with Nübel while also bringing in new signings and negotiating the contract extensions for both Konrad Laimer and Harry Kane.
The Daily Mail in England has also reported that newly-promoted Hull City could be an option for the keeper as the Premier League newcomers are looking for another keeper and have received significant finances for getting back to the English topflight for the first time since the 2016/17 season. Still, though, with Hull City being a newly-promoted team, there would be no European competition for Nübel and it’d be a far riskier move for him as there is no telling how the club will fare this coming season. Hull City are a far cry from AS Monaco or VfB Stuttgart, but in Nübel’s case, there might not be any better options presented this summer.
