Man, home games are fun aren’t they? Everyone is a Mizzou fan, the team generally plays better, the vibes are better when you watch on TV. In my opinion, we should play all games at home.
Unfortunately,
that’s not how the sport works, and we’re now faced with the unfortunate position of Mizzou having to go on the road to [dry heave] Auburn. Who would ever go to Auburn, amirite?
Part of why we’re so obviously unenthused about the prospect of a road trip is Mizzou’s general struggles away from home under Eli Drinkwitz. The Tigers are 6-15 in true road games during the Drinkwitz era, with the signature wins being against No. 24 Kentucky in 2023 and No. 25 South Carolina in 2022, both teams that turned out to be fine. We’ve also experienced some true disasters on the road under Drinkwitz. See, uh, Auburn 2022.
But for Missouri to finally take that next step they’ve been teasing for the better part of the past year, they need to start turning these difficulties on the road into displays of mental fortitude. Despite Mizzou’s loss to Alabama last week, SP+ still says they’re the 8th best team in the country. And Top 10 teams don’t fizzle to worse teams (Auburn is No. 27 in SP+) just because they’re playing in a hostile environment.
Time for Mizzou to prove they’re what the advanced numbers say they are. Time to exorcise the demons of 2022.
Time to walk into Jordan-Hare with a plan and walk out with a win.
As usual, check out the in depth preview of Auburn and the game by Nate here.
