AC Milan were held to a 2-2 draw in their final Serie A fixture ahead of the international break as they squandered a lead built through goals from Alexis Saelemaekers and Rafael Leao. Parma fought back
and levelled the scoreline, courtesy of strikes from Arian Bernabe and Enrico Del Prato.
The draw could have been turned into three points, and the Rossoneri were left vulnerable to positive results from Napoli, Inter and Roma in the chase for the Scudetto. However, things stayed under control for Milan when they saw themselves moving up the third place in the league standings with two points off the leaders. Napoli’s 2-0 defeat to Bologna made them lose top spot and slip to fourth, while the Nerazzurri and the Giallorossi remain tied at 24 points. Milan have them within touching distance with 22 points across the board, but we must wait until the end of the international break to see a renewed fight for the Serie A title.
Apart from these movements amongst the top four sides, Bologna, Juventus and Como are at 21, 19 and 18 points respectively. Immediately after the break, Milan will face off in a fiery Derby Della Madonnina against Inter. It will be a must-win clash for Il Diavolo, not only for the bragging rights but also to ensure they keep the pressure alive on the table toppers. Dropping points could hurt Milan, as the Old Lady should find no problem in dispatching rock-bottom Fiorentina, and Como could close the gap on the same matchday.
While Napoli, Inter and Roma will enter European competitions as soon as club football returns, Massimiliano Allegri will find a reprieve in that area and will be able to keep his troops fit and ready for their upcoming clashes at the end of this month and December.
