It is time for Golden Gopher Basketball!
The Gardner-Webb Bulldogs come to the Barn to open the 2025-26 season and the Niko Medved era.
KEYS TO A GOPHER WIN
Play cohesive – I am expecting to see a team that plays well together. Players making cuts and moving away from the ball with intentionality, reversing the ball and taking good shots.
Ask for nametags – The Bulldogs lost their top six returning scorers either to graduation or the portal and had previously announced an 11-person recruiting class. Spence Sims has the pedigree of a player who could cause the Gophers some problems. He’s a former McDonald’s All-American who redshirted at Alabama last season. Alsoworth noting that Riek Riek is from Rochester and will likely be very excited to be playing at the Barn.
Hit open shots – I believe that Medved’s offense is going to be better at getting open looks for shooters. When open, please make them.
PREDICTION
I am excited to see this team play, but the viewing audience will likely be very limited with the game only airing on B1G+.
This may be another long season, but it will be fun to see this new roster come together and see how Medved navigates his first Big Ten season.
Gardner-Webb is one of the weaker teams on our schedule and I expect this should be a win.
