The Tennessee Volunteers are set to close out the regular season over the next three days in Oklahoma City, set to take on the Oklahoma Sooners. The university opted to move the series to Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, citing an opportunity to showcase the program to a different market.
This will also serve as the first meeting between the schools as SEC members.
At this point, both sides are solidly in the NCAA Tournament field. However, both squads could use another series win rolling
into the SEC Tournament. Tennessee has been projected as the No. 29 national seed — a No. 2 seed in Georgia Tech’s regional. Oklahoma is the projected No. 26 national seed.
The Sooners have dropped three straight series, limping home to the finish line. Oklahoma has dropped two of three to Arkansas, Florida and Auburn to get to this point.
Tennessee has been up and down all conference season long, never really finding a groove. The Volunteers did exactly what they had to do last week, taking a series from N0. 4 Texas. Maybe, finally, they can string some wins together here at the end of the regular season.
Injury note: Tennessee starting pitcher Landon Mack is listed as questionable heading into the weekend. Josh Elander has left the Saturday starter blank for the time being.
