As the No. 6 Texas Longhorns prepare to host the Austin Super Regional this weekend against the No. 11 Oregon Ducks, head coach Jim Schlossnagle’s program suffered its first defection to the NCAA transfer portal as it opened on Monday with the announcement that outfielder Will Hill is departing the program.
The 6’0, 175-pounder has four seasons of eligibility remaining after redshirting during his lone season on the Forty Acres.
Out of Humble Summer Creek, Hill committed to former head coach David Pierce in 2022 and finished the 2025 recruiting cycle as the No. 52 outfielder and the No. 241 player overall, according to Perfect Game, which also evaluated Hill:
Compact frame with added size and quick twitch muscle. Ran a 6.76 in the sixty. Primary outfielder with quick twitch athleticism. Shorter arm slot with strength behind throws, gets on top of the well. Quick footwork and accuracy in his round. Right-handed hitter, wider base and even stance with fast hands at the plate. Direct to it and sprayed a good bit to all fields. Loose hand speed and was on the barrel. Loads of twitch in the profile, high end run tool to build upon as well.
But despite the positive view of Hill as a prospect, injuries in the outfield, and the departures of transfers Jack Moroknek and Kaleb Freeman in the 2025 MLB Draft, Hill was never in the mix for playing time this season and was going to be recruited over as Schlossnagle tries to build better program depth.
