On Thursday, the Detroit Lions will close out Week 2 of Organized Team Activities. It’s their sixth practice of OTAs, and it will be the second with media present at Allen Park. That means more Dan Campbell, more additional media sessions, and a full report of observations coming later on Thursday afternoon.
Last week, we got some answers to questions. We got vague injury updates from Campbell, a list of players who participated in practice (based on our own observations), and an idea of what the
depth chart may look like based on just one day of practice—although Campbell urged media and fans not to read into that.
Thursday is an opportunity to build upon that information and get to know the 2026 Detroit Lions team a little better. So today’s Question is:
What is the biggest question for Week 2 of Detroit Lions OTAs?
My answer: I’d like to know more about schematic or philosophical changes being made on both sides of the ball. After last year’s disappointing season, there’s plenty that needs to be improved upon beyond just personnel. I’d like to see some growth from defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard and some new ideas from new offensive coordinator Drew Petzing. Sheppard has already hinted at some changes that could be coming. We’re still a bit in the dark when it comes to Petzing.
While we’re not likely to get many answers from practice, as the playbook remains quite vanilla this time of year, we are expected to hear from both coordinators over the next couple weeks. So any sort of insight into their process this offseason, what they’ve discovered about their own personnel, and where their installation of new concepts is at would be very informative this time of year.
Do I expect these coaches to give us a ton of insight into their scheme? No, not really. Do I expect them to at least give us some hints? Also, probably not. But any upcoming changes in strategy remain one of the most intriguing things about this coaching staff.
