The Jacksonville Jaguars pulled off a stunning last-second victory in London, surviving a wild finish against a hobbled Philadelphia Eagles team. What appeared to be a golden opportunity for Jacksonville to make a statement instead turned into a chaotic battle that came down to the final moments. The Jaguars escaped with the win, but the dramatic finish leaves plenty to unpack about a team that continues to find interesting ways to snatch victory from the hands of defeat.
Here’s everything you need
to know from Jacksonville’s Week 5 19-17 victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Favorite Highlight:
Whether it counts in the record books or not, Josh Cameron’s opening play 90-yard kick return likely should have counted, based on the tape. Linebacker Branson Combs was called for holding during the play (with additional offsetting penalties afterward). However, the replay seems to show him being bowled over, with the defender falling on top of him. With the opening kick flags, the NFL’s first kick return touchdown of 2026 was wiped off the board, but Duval remembers.
In Case You Missed It
The Jacksonville Jaguars, in consecutive weeks, begin the day with a significant problem with penalties and issues blocking up front. However, in this matchup, struggles in the red zone became a new talking point. The Jacksonville offense answered the early call, despite penalties opening the game with a Parker Washington touchdown.
However, an inability to slow down the Eagles pass rush, paired with an inexperienced safety room struggling to limit the explosives, resulted in a true dogfight for the first time in 2026. The London opener was, notably, the first time this season that Jacksonville went into the half without a 10, or more, point lead. In this one, Jacksonville failed to score a tying touchdown on four plays from the one-yard line.

Following the half, both defenses tightened up, forcing a back-and-forth, field-position slugfest. The Jacksonville defense pitched a second-half shutout, while the Jaguars’ offense, again, was held scoreless in the red zone from first and goal from the one-yard line with 6:40 left in the fourth quarter. However, following a punt on the next drive, Parker Washington, again, became the needed spark for the team, bringing in an incredible one-handed, go-ahead touchdown.
Following quick three-and-outs from both offenses, the Jaguars’ defense allowed the Eagles’ offense to drive 32-yards in 83 seconds to drill the game-winning field goal with 8 seconds remaining. However, a 53-yard kick return by Ameer Abdullah allowed Cam Little just one second to kick a walk-off field goal to take home the victory.

Post-game notables:
1. Early Penalties Again Pop Up
Following a Week 4 first half against Cincinnati, where Jacksonville collected 10 early penalties for 100-yards, in Week 5, the team ended Sunday with 13 penalties for consecutive weeks. The constant pre-snap penalties on offense are the ones that are most noticeable, as they share a similarity to those that Jacksonville struggled with for much of the early 2025 season.
- QB Trevor Lawrence (3) – Delay of Game (x3)
- LT Anton Harrison – False Start
- LT Walker Little – False Start
- LG Emmanuel Pregnon (3) – Offensive Holding (x3)
- RT Cole Van Lanen – False Start
- TE Brenton Strange (2) – Illegal Shift & Offensive Holding
- WR Jakobi Meyers – Offensive Holding (negating a 12-yard Chris Rodriguez first down rush)
- DE Bryan Thomas Jr – Personal Foul (BTJ ejected; penalty not accepted with kick return TD negated)
- LB Branson Combs – Holding (penalty not accepted with offsetting penalties; kick return TD negated)
- CB Jarrian Jones – Pass Interference
2. What to Do in the Safety Room
It was a rough opening half for Jaguars safety Ray Lane, who initially was juked by Dontayvion Wicks on a first-down catch. He later missed the tackle on the Will Shipley touchdown run later in the drive.
Lane then took a bad angle on the Darius Cooper touchdown, not landing a hand on the receiver as the deep safety.
With Eric Murray ruled out in pregame with a concussion, Lane and Antonio Johnson were the starting safeties on Sunday, with Kaevon Merriweather receiving snaps as the third safety looks. Interestingly, Anthony Campanile went with the veteran Merriweather over rookie safety Jalen Huskey. The back end was noticeably quiet following halftime, however and it’s possible the young safety just needed time to settle in.
3. Offensive line struggles
Sunday’s biggest news is clearly the loss of Left Tackle Anton Harrison, who was carted offfrom the Tottenham Stadium in the third quarter with a knee injury. Walker Little took over at left tackle with Anton unavailable. Even before Harrison’s exit, the offensive line had struggles slowing down Jalen Carter early on.
While Jacksonville was fortunate to recover both fumbles in the shadow of their end zone, it was clear from the onset that the deep passing game would be limited in this one.
Game balls:
- Special Teams: Punter Logan Cooke: Multiple high snaps on extra points and field goals were snagged in a game where every single point counted. However, it’s hard not to give this award to DT Davon Hamilton, RB Ameer Abdullah, or K Cam Little for their huge plays that also helped secure the win.
- Defense: Safety Antonio Johnson: 4 tackles, 2 solo, a shared sack, and a pass defensed
- Offense: Wide Receiver Parker Washington: 6 catches for 124 yards (20.4 avg), 2 touchdowns on 9 targets
Key stats (traditional):
- QB Trevor Lawrence: 24/39 for 331 yards (8.5 avg), 2 touchdowns, 1 interception for a passer rating of 95.1
- RB Bhayshul Tuten: 22 carries for 72 yards (3.3), 2 catches for 24 yards on three targets
- WR Parker Washington: 6 catches for 124 yards (20.4 avg), 2 touchdowns on 9 targets
- TE Brenton Strange: 7 catches for 68 yards (9.7 avg) on 8 targets (one drop)
- LB Foye Oluokun: 10 tackles, 6 solo, 1 TFL
- DE Josh Hines-Allen: 4 tackles (all solo), 2 TFL, 1 pass defensed, 2 QB hits
- S Antonio Johnson: 4 tackles, 2 solo, a shared sack, and a pass defensed

Pre-Game Inactives
For the Jaguars, the lone starter made inactive due to injury was safety Eric Murray, who was unable to clear the league’s five-step return-to-play concussion protocol before kickoff. Recently signed backup cornerback Jaylon Jones was also inactive with a hamstring injury. The team also noted the following healthy scratches:
- OL Daniel Faalele
- WR CJ Williams
- DT Albert Regis
- DE Wesley Williams
- CB Alijah Huzzie
For Philadelphia, the pregame injury list was extensive. On Friday, Philadelphia ruled out starting running back Saquon Barkley (hamstring), wide receivers DeVonta Smith (hamstring) and Hollywood Brown (ankle), safety Marcus Epps (groin), and center Drew Kendall (knee). Additionally, following pregame warm-ups, linebacker Jonathan Greenard was made inactive with an ankle injury. After a week that featured the team trading away two-time Pro Bowl Center Cam Jurgen and the Tuesday sudden retirement of six-time Pro Bowl tackle Lane Johnson, the large injury list clearly highlighted this one early on.
In-Game Injuries
As a note, the following Jacksonville players left Sunday’s game due to injury:
- Long snapper Ross Matiscik left the game with a shoulder injury
- Left tackle Anton Harrison was carted off with an knee injury
- Cornerback Montaric Brown left the game with a hamstring injury. He was listed with a hamstring all week, after missing Week 4 with the same injury
