Thomas Müller bleeds red. Well, technically everyone bleeds red, but Müller bleeds more red than average. He was at Bayern Munich from his youth to his mid-thirties, winning every trophy under the sun. So when FC Bayern faced off against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals on Wednesday, you could be sure he was watching.
Except, he did more than that. In a video shared on Instagram, the former #25 showed his Vancouver Whitecaps teammates had also joined in on the party. They were all
watching the game together in what seemed to be the physio room.
Müller had managed to convince all his teammates to cheer for FC Bayern during the game, but one man remained stubborn. Canadian international defender Ralph Priso can be seen in the background giving a thumbs down. He must be a Madrid fan. Maybe when the season is over, his international teammate Alphonso Davies could have some words about that.
Aside from that, the video is a fun glimpse into the life Müller now leads in the twilight of his career. It must be surreal for him, watching his team on the big screen, knowing he’s been demoted to fan for the rest of his life. He is the only one in that dressing room who knows what it’s like to face Real Madrid on a UCL night, and he must miss it.
Still, Vincent Kompany and the boys gave him (and the rest of us) a game to remember. When Bayern Munich face Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the CL, you can be sure that Thomas Müller and the Vancouver Whitecaps will be tuning in once again.
