One tries to remain neutral and detached when writing articles, but recent debates over Bayern Munich forward Michael Olise’s personality and character are utterly awful and deserve condemnation. Speculating on the 24-year-old’s “true nature” based on guesses and fleeting moments during public appearances exposes a frustrating desire to unveil what Olise is unwilling to show. Fortunately, Olise knows his right to privacy and has remained closed off.
Fortunately, teammate Aleksandar Pavlović reveals
that this quiet side is just one aspect of who Olise truly is. In fact, he can be quite open: “Michael is completely different from how he’s portrayed in public,” the Bavarian midfielder told Sport Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “He’s a very funny, friendly person who laughs a lot with us. We get along really well, and he’s a good friend of mine. I enjoy spending time with him and sharing the pitch with him.”
It is incredible how insulted people react to a footballer choosing not to open up to the public—as if we were owed any information on Olise at all. His job is to play football, after all. It is important that the media simply let Olise do his job and stop twisting him into a malicious character just because of short interview answers.
