DFB sporting director Rudi Völler is confident that Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has overcome his calf issue and will be ready to play at a high level for Germany at the World Cup in North America.
“Manuel has already completed training sessions with the team here in Chicago and shown that his calf is no longer causing any major problems. We’re talking about Manuel Neuer here! He’s a world-class goalkeeper who has already experienced everything in his career and has plenty of experience.
He’ll play a fantastic tournament, I’m convinced of that,” Völler told Sport Bild.
It looks like Germany will need Neuer to be at his best. There are big questions within each position group and the one thing that could help stabilize the squad is for Neuer to return and play at a high level. Some are questioning whether or not the veteran has enough juice left to carry a team in a tournament.
As it stands, fans are about to find out.
