It was a quiet day on the front, with the hot stove doing little to surprise us yesterday as we amble towards the winter meetings. The Yankees made something resembling news, announcing their 2026 coaching staff, though that was more a formality, as they mostly confirmed earlier reports of changes within their staff. It’s not a shock that things remain quiet, but this offseason has already shown the ability to throw us a curveball, with a relatively high number of significant trades and free agent
signings coming down in these last few weeks. Let’s see if we get any more interesting news before the meetings start. On the site today, Matt profiles Ha-Seong Kim as a free agent target, Peter delivers the grade on Anthony Volpe’s 2025 season (my suspicion is that it won’t be the best grade), and Sam traces Don Mattingly’s long non-Hall of Fame saga.
Questions/Prompts:
1. Who will be the best pitcher on the 2026 Yankees?
2. Will the Yankees open the 2026 season with a luxury-tax payroll over $300MM? Will they finish the season with such a payroll?
