Good morning Gang Green Nation!
The New York Jets lost their third straight game to start the Aaron Glenn era on Sunday and already there are questions being asked as to whether Justin Fields’ starting
position is in jeopardy. It’s kind of a bizarre question. The Jets gave Fields a $40 million contract. They told him there would be no quarterback competition, he was the starter. He’s played two games in a Jets uniform. One was very good. One was very bad. He suffered a head injury, was diagnosed with a concussion, and missed a game. In his absence, Tyrod Taylor stepped in at quarterback, and was barely adequate at best. Taylor is 36 years old, has not started more than six games in an NFL season since 2017, and when he was a full time starter, he was, well, adequate at best. Taylor has been extremely injury prone, and there is no reasonable future where Taylor becomes a long term starter in the NFL at this stage of his career. What about these circumstances suggests the Jets would even consider a change at quarterback if Fields is healthy? Jettisoning Fields after one bad game in favor of a dead end like Taylor would be insane. Fields may not be a long term answer at quarterback for the Jets. Odds are he won’t be. But the odds are Blutarsky that Taylor is anything but a decent backup at this stage of his career. And benching your newly acquired $40 million quarterback after one bad performance would be colossally stupid even for one of the dumbest franchises in NFL history.
