Cowboys backup QB opens eyes with preseason performance – Nick Brinkerhoff, USA Today
In the battle for the QB2 job, Joe Milton took a big step forward. He was spectacular against the Cardinals on Saturday night.
The Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback wasn’t in the lineup for the team’s preseason
game on Aug. 22 against the Arizona Cardinals. Instead, it was Joe Milton III that got the nod from head coach Brian Schottenheimer. And Milton made the most of the opportunity. The third-year pro out of Tennessee shined in the opening 30 minutes, leading the Cowboys to a 24-6 halftime lead and accounted for all three touchdowns.

A quick recap of the action from Saturday night when the Cowboys had a great showing.
Third Quarter
The Cardinals weren’t going to go quietly into the night, opening the second half with a lengthy drive to the end zone. They marched 64 yards in 12 plays with Minshew completing 4 of 5 passes for 39 yards. Running back Corey Kiner finished things off with a 1-yard run off left tackle to make things more interesting, 24-13. Although the Cowboys now had a new quarterback behind center in Howell, the offense didn’t skip a beat. An 11-play, 57-yard drive reached the Arizona 11-yard line, where Aubrey added another three points with a 29-yard field goal.
Terence Steele’s job isn’t at risk despite Cowboys’ interesting words and antics – Levi Dobro, The Landry Hat
Terence Steele has been at the center of a lot of discussion when it comes to the Cowboys’ offensive line. Although things have have been rocky for him, it looks like spot is secure in the starting lineup.
Steele is an entrenched starter for this Cowboys team, so much so that he didn’t even play against Seattle. And it’s not like his backups played particularly well or anything, but Dallas’ choice to play Drew Shelton at left tackle and Nate Thomas at right tackle with the 2s this week sparked debate. To add fuel to this fire, both head coach Brian Schottenheimer and offensive coordinator Klayton Adams made comments this week about Steele needing to be more consistent. But if you really dive into what they said and look at the situation, this isn’t an indictment of Steele, nor is his job on the line.
Jerry Jones has every reason to believe in Cowboys’ playoff potential after latest NFL predictions – Sam Haider, Sporting News
Might this Cowboys team be “Super”? Better yet, is Jerry Jones right to possibly feel that way?
“Quarterback Dak Prescott has a solid offensive line in front of him, as well as an elite wide receiver duo in CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens,” Clay wrote. While the Cowboys boasted one of the NFL’s most explosive offenses in 2025, questions remain on the other side of the ball. They finished fifth in the league in scoring, averaging 27.7 points per game, but their defense struggled throughout the season, surrendering an NFL-worst 30.1 points per contest. The Cowboys have since made significant changes in hopes of improving that unit.
Former Penn State Star, NFC East Rival Admits Cowboys Won Micah Parsons Trade – Randy Gurzi, Sports Illustrated
Well, that settles it. A former NFC East legend claims the debate is over as we have a clear winner following Dallas’ trade of Micah Parsons.
Despite his ties to Parsons and dislike for the Dallas franchise, Arrington was willing to admit the Cowboys are the winners of the 2025 trade with the Green Bay Packers. When asked on Thursday night for his thoughts, he made it clear that he didn’t like saying it, but gave the nod to Jerry Jones. “If you’re saying addition by subtraction, you probably gotta say,” Arrington said while starting to mouth the word “Cowboys,” according to Edward Lewis of the New York Post. “I’m not going to say it!”
