While Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany will be suspended for the first leg of the Champions League tie vs. Paris Saint-Germain, but do not expect the manager to cede his position to Aaron Danks and the rest of his staffers to help prep for that match.
“Mainz isn’t a preparation. It’s a Bundesliga game. We want the three points. There might be changes regarding workload management, but the most important thing is that we’re ready to play our best. Mainz away is a tough fixture, we have to be ready to fight.
Everyone will play their role in the coming weeks, but first and foremost, Mainz is the absolute priority. And we need to make sensible decisions,” said Kompany (via @iMiaSanMia).
As for the potential of a heavily rotated lineup, Kompany tossed around some nifty word salad to say that he wants to keep his squad focused.
“We’re all human. We had a similar situation a few weeks ago with the two Madrid games. It’s a very big game so you can’t not think about it. I’ll never make that claim. But I can be a role model as a coach. How do we prepare? What do I say? I can make good decisions to an extent, not ignore the big goal but also have no fear bringing fresh players in to push the fight. It’s no different from the whole season. That was the mentality all season. That won’t change now,” said Kompany.
