Barcelona appointed Hansi Flick as manager in 2024 and have seen the German coach go on to win La Liga, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup titles with the Catalans.
Joan Laporta had been an admirer of Flick’s long before he appointed the former Bayern boss as manager and was also advised to go for the German by Ralf Rangnick.
According to Cadena SER, Laporta had been impressed by Rangnick’s ideas after seeing him talking football and spoke to him before his second stint as Barcelona president. Rangnick was
only too happy to offer Laporta some advice.
“The best is Jürgen Klopp, but he doesn’t fit Barça’s style of play. Nagelsmann is the best tactically, but he doesn’t know how to manage the dressing room. Your man is Hansi Flick, because he’s very good tactically and is capable of managing the dressing room and the young players,” Rangnick apparently told Laporta.
The Barcelona president had to wait a little while but eventually got his man and has seen Flick go on to enjoy success at the Camp Nou.
Laporta has told Flick he “can stay as until he decides to leave” and has since overseen a contract extension for the Barcelona boss that will keep him at the club until 2028.
