Our Miami Dolphins went out at the beginning of free agency and surprised everyone by pulling off the signing of former Green Bay Packers backup quarterback Malik Willis. I then asked the following question earlier this week:
Do you believe that Malik Willis will ultimately be a long-term answer for the Miami Dolphins at starting quarterback, or is he just a competent placeholder for the team until they can draft and develop their long-term answer in the next couple of drafts?

Jptapt is not sold based on his time as a Titan, or maybe just the limited film we have on him while he was a Packer.
My personal feeling is that he is not the long-term solution. I think he will be closer to Tennessee Willis than GB Willis.

Well he has a strong arm and can run so thats already a plus.In fact strong arm might be a understatement
MIAMI235 thinks we will know by the midway point of the season, unless Ewers takes a big step forward from last season before that.
Make that decision around Game 8, providing that Willis is still upright. Unless, Ewers blooms before that.
krammm says they are doing things in South Florida the Green Bay way, which is probably a good thing compared to what we have had to endure for so very long.
It’s ripping the band aid off hard and doing it the Green Bay way.
I’m glad they’re doing it the way they want to do it.
Getting their way is the quickest way to see if what they’re doing is right or wrong.
davidson11 believes that Willis benefited from the system that he was in, not the other way around.
If Malik Willis was good, the Packers would have extended him earlier and then traded him to another team.
Mac Jones could have looked awesome in that Green Bay offense.
THEphinz is super hopeful that he will be around for the next decade plus.
I don’t think his athleticism has ever been in question, but he needs to put all the pieces together mentally.
I sure hope he is “the guy” going forward for the next 15 years. We will see

Just talking about two yrs, it’s not long nor short. Medium… or just right to assess.
How well he does on loses, how he deals with failure, how he leads (win or loss) & how he grows…. during these yrs.
Basically, he’s on probation so-to-speak.
Right now he begins the season as a placeholder. His achievements in the time given will determine his tenure.
This process has no bearing on when & at what number a QB is selected in a draft… as the philosophy of the team on such has been spoken about by the GM.
Dolfanjoe says trust the process and get the dude some weapons and protection.
Sullivan and Hafley seem to be convinced that Willis is the best option for them. Hell its there jobs on the line ! QBs often fail coming out of school. Not ready, too much pressure. Not the right teachers and coaches. As we have seen from a couple of Jets QBs, they can become what they were not right away ! Apparently this is what they see in this young Man. Someone who wishes to and is getting better each year. He needs to have a line. He needs to have receivers. And he needs to have a running game to take the pressure off of him ! Achane and company could be the answer to that. Better O line and we have a better running game also. Only time will tell if they can put it together in the next 3 years.

No idea if Malik is the answer. All we can hope is he’s an upgrade that can lead the new offense — whatever that looks like. But hope springs eternal. And miracles do happen. I mean Iowa just made the Elite 8! Who would’ve thunk that??? 😳😁
Fins Fan in Bills Land believes we need to figure it out for sure during the upcoming season so the front office knows whether they need to go after a QB in the draft.
If he is, or isn’t, we need to be highly confident in that answer ahead of the 2027 draft.
We can’t pass on taking a top QB in that draft if the leaders aren’t certain about Malik. Might be smart to take one regardless and have some competition in camp. If we find ourselves with two A+ QBs, trade one for a first-rounder or two. Would be a nice problem to have.

No one knows what he’ll be. He has a 2 year window while we shed Tua’s cap hit. A learning year and a “prove it year”. If he’s not the guy they’ll draft and move on.
PhinsTifosi believes you’re high if you claim you know for sure.
anyone who says they know the answer today is heavy into Miami snow . . .
MiamiItaliano says we don’t know, the offense will be designed around Willis’ strengths, and if it all fails, the team can walk away with little cap ramifications.
Nobody definitely knows if Malik will be the guy right now. We can only make a guess. My guess is that Slowik calling the offense will continue to exploit Malik’s strengths and limit his weaknesses. Also, the 2026 team will be relying on a lot of rookie talent. So I think if the win total is 7 wins like last year, I think that would be somewhat impressive and the franchise is on the right track. If the Dolphins are terrible, Malik is guaranteed only for 2027 and then cut after for not that big of a cap hit.
JUK believes that if he reaches his full potential, he very well could be the answer we have been looking for.
I don’t know and nether does anyone else. But I think his ceiling is long term answer for sure. He has the raw tools – the arm strength and athleticism are undeniable. So it all comes down to how consistently he can make his reads in a dropback passing game. I don’t care about how a raw kid from liberty did in a dreadful offense in Tennessee 4 years ago, but we need to see how he can handle 25-30 drop backs a game. I’m excited to watch it
Dave G says he doesn’t have a crystal ball and that he might suffer from being on a worse team.
There in no way to predict this. I would say that if he stayed in Green Bay, I think more than likely long term.
There have always been a handful of QB’s that never broke out till they switched teams. However, it was always to a better team. He is going backwards in that protocol. Is he doomed ? I seriously hope not. He looks good in short spurts obviously, but can he sustain full time ? I expect him to look like a rookie all over again in his first year here. Not because he is, but , due to a new group of guys and having to create new weapons. I truly dont see us winning more than 4 games this year, therefore, I hope next year he will be alot more successful and also teach our newly drafted stud in 2027
That’s our random fifteen comments for this evening. It seems as if some believe more than others, with most everyone believing that we don’t know until we see him out there in a Dolphins uniform. I, like most, hope that he surprises everyone and is even better than advertised, and that we can use that first next year for some other glaring need.
