The Texas Longhorns added depth to a depleted linebacker room with the addition of Akron Transfer Markus Boswell.
Boswell is an Austin native and son of former Longhorn and Olympic high jumper Mark Boswell, who medalled for Canada in the 1999 and 2003 Olympic Games. The younger Boswell spent a year with the Zips, finishing the year with 19 tackles, one sack, and one interception. He slots in as a Mike linebacker in Will Muschamp’s system, and with three years of eligibility left, adds much-needed depth.
The Transfer Portal took a big bite out of Texas’s depth at the position, with both Bo Barnes and Liona Lefau both choosing to take their talents elsewhere this offseason.
Thankfully for the Texas defense, Boswell is the fourth linebacker Texas added this offseason, with New Mexico’s Trey Dubuc, Florida State’s Justin Cryer, and Pitt’s Rasheem Biles all moving to the Forty Acres as well. Joining them in the room is TyAnthony Smith, who filled in well for Anthony Hill post-injury and five-star freshman Tyler Atkinson.
