Jan-Christian Dreesen recently addressed the future of Manuel Neuer at FC Bayern Munich, offering praise for the veteran goalkeeper while leaving the door open regarding what comes next.
Neuer has been a defining figure for Bayern for more than a decade, transforming the role of the modern goalkeeper with his sweeping style and elite distribution. Even as he approaches his 40th birthday, the German international continues to perform at a high level, demonstrating the experience, leadership, and shot-stopping
ability that have made him one of the greatest goalkeepers of his generation.
Speaking about Neuer’s situation, Dreesen made it clear that the club continues to hold the veteran in extremely high regard. At the same time, his comments suggested that discussions about the goalkeeper’s long-term future remain ongoing rather than fully decided.
“We’re in contact with Manu. We’ve known each other for a long time. He’s a club legend and will be 40 this month. He’s still performing at an incredible level and is still one the best goalkeepers in the world. We should be thankful that he’s with us. We’ll see what happens,” Dreesen told Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
The statement reflects both admiration and realism. Bayern clearly recognizes Neuer’s legendary status and the continued value he brings to the squad. Few players have had such a lasting influence on a club’s success, particularly during an era in which Bayern dominated German football and regularly competed for the biggest prizes in Europe.
At the same time, the club must also consider the future. As Neuer approaches another milestone birthday, Bayern will eventually need to determine how the next chapter in their goalkeeping department will unfold.
For now, however, the message from the club’s leadership is clear: as long as Neuer continues to perform at an elite level, Bayern remain grateful to have their iconic captain guarding the goal.
