FC Augsburg had plenty to celebrate after earning a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich on Saturday, with head coach Manuel Baum and several players highlighting the team’s collective effort, resilience, and determination to secure a point against the Bundesliga champions.
Baum was particularly pleased with how his side responded to Bayern’s equaliser, refusing to let the momentum swing completely in the visitors’ favor.
“You can’t highlight one person today. We were strong as a collective. I was particularly
impressed how we didn’t fall apart after the first equalizer, but hit back. I’m proud of the guys and the whole stadium,” Baum said (as captured by FCBayern.com).
Midfielder Robin Fellhauer shared that pride but admitted Augsburg could have taken even more from the encounter.
“We can definitely be pleased with a point against Bayern. We would’ve liked more. When you look at the way the game went, maybe it’s also a bit fortunate. The team left everything out on the pitch, so we deserved the point,” Fellhauer remarked.
Goalkeeper Finn Dahmen echoed that sentiment, acknowledging that Augsburg needed a little fortune alongside their hard work to frustrate Bayern.
“We would’ve taken a point before the game. We gave our all, but you also need luck. In the end, we’re happy with the point,” Dahmen stated.
For Augsburg, the result was a testament to their resilience and team spirit. While Bayern Munich will rue the dropped points, Baum’s side can take considerable confidence from battling back and earning a share of the spoils against one of Germany’s biggest clubs.
