Number 14 ranked TCU Soccer closed out their non-conference schedule with a win this past Sunday over Gonzaga by a score of 2-1. The Frogs showed off their clutch gene yet again with a go ahead goal in the 79th minute from Seven Castain. This was TCU’s fifth one goal win in 2025 as the Frogs continue to show confidence under pressure and an ability to come up clutch when it matters the most. The Frogs moved to 6-1-0 on the year with the win and will head into Big 12 conference play on a two game
winning streak.
Gonzaga recorded the first shot on goal which was handled by Kira Ybarra who started at goalie for the Frogs. Gonzaga did collect the rebound off that shot but was unable to take advantage as their next shot went wide right. The TCU offense responded with sustained pressure resulting in a number of chances as Emma Yolinski and Seven Castain both recorded shots on goal. Gonzaga pushed back a bit in the 20th minute with a shot that missed high before TCU again created an opportunity for Sydney Becerra who had a shot on goal that was saved by the Gonzaga goalie. In the 25th minute, TCU broke the scoreless tie on a goal from Seven Castain that was set up by a nice move and cross from Grace Vest who picked up an assist on the goal. Kamdyn Fuller also tallied an assist on the goal with a smart pass to Vest. Both defenses settled in for the rest of the half as there were no shots on goal from either side until after the break. At halftime, TCU was in the lead on the scoreboard and had dominated the game with double the amount of shots as Gonzaga.
Both offenses came out aggressive in the second half as the teams both had a shot within the first five minutes. The Frogs offense did a great job of maintaining pressure on Gonzaga as they controlled possession and launched six unanswered shots from the 49th minute to the 59th minute. After a few minutes without a shot from either team, Castain had two more dangerous chances with two shots on goal. A corner kick from the Frogs set up another shot on goal, this time from Morgan Brown. In the 76th minute however, TCU’s control of the game slipped as Gonzaga was able to find the equalizer off of a corner kick to tie the score at 1-1. Luckily for the Frogs, just three minutes later, Castain found the back of the net for the second time in the game on a header off of a great feed from Cameron Patton. That 2-1 score would hold the rest of the way as Gonzaga managed just one shot on goal the rest of the way. Castain was absolutely dominant on the pitch on Sunday, recording her fourth and fifth goals of the year, earning Big 12 Co-offensive player of the week in the process. Castain’s five shots on goal led all players and was more than Gonzaga’s total shots on goal in the game.
The Frogs will open conference play at home this Friday at 7:00 pm against the Utah Utes who are off to a 5-3-1 start this season.
