The New York Jets are already reduced to playing out the string on another lost season. The possibility they could make the playoffs is so remote it’s not worth considering. The Jets are legitimate contenders to finish with the worst record in the NFL. Under these circumstances, and with the NFL trade deadline now just four weeks away, the possibility of a Jets fire sale looms. In general there is less activity at the trade deadline in the NFL than in other major sports,
and the Jets rarely have gone into all out fire sale mode. Could this year be the exception? Perhaps, but you have to have trade assets other teams want, and the Jets may have too few such assets to bring back the kind of draft picks haul that could transform this franchise. Quinnen Williams is probably the most valuable piece that could plausibly be moved, but I doubt the Jets will consider moving him. We’ll see in less than a month, but I’m skeptical the trade deadline will yield a significant haul of future draft picks for the Jets.
