The momentum from Kentucky Football’s huge upset win over No. 9 Texas A&M continues for the Wildcats and head coach Will Stein, as the Wildcats have landed a commitment from 2029 3-star quarterback Marcus Washington Jr.
Washington does not currently have a national ranking, as he is only a sophomore in high school, but his recruitment and rankings could rise as he continues to develop.
The 6-foot, 165-pound quarterback plays for Cajon High School in San Bernardino, California, and chose Kentucky over
programs including Arizona, Arizona State, Michigan, North Carolina, Texas A&M, and others.
Kentucky first offered Washington in May and brought him to Lexington for an unofficial visit on Sept. 12. It appears the Wildcats made a strong first impression, with Kentucky’s 31-21 upset of Texas A&M helping further solidify Washington’s interest in the program.
The Wildcats also have a promising quarterback pipeline for the coming years. Kenny Minchey is expected to lead the team this season and next, while Matt Ponatoski could take over in 2028. 4-star 2027 quarterback Jake Nawrot is also committed to Kentucky, giving the Wildcats another highly regarded quarterback in the pipeline.
Of course, Kentucky could still add another quarterback to its 2028 recruiting class, but the future of the position is already looking bright under Stein.
Washington’s recruitment is not necessarily over, and plenty can change during the recruiting process. However, his commitment gives Stein and the Kentucky staff another young quarterback to develop as they continue building the program for the future.
