The No. 7 Texas Longhorns are set for their home opener at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium against the San Jose State Spartans as the program, and redshirt sophomore quarterback Arch Manning, try to bounce back from last week’s loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus.
Kick is at 11 a.m. Central on ABC.
The eyes of the college football world remain on Manning after going 17-of-30 passing for 170 yards, one touchdown, and one interception against the Buckeyes in his debut as the Longhorns
starter. Most notably, Manning struggled with his accuracy, bouncing multiple passes in front of his intended targets, sailing other balls, and missing open receivers, often looking shellshocked in the hostile environment of Ohio Stadium.
So Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian will have to find a more effective way to get Manning comfortable against San Jose State, which could include some early quarterback runs, not a part of Sarkisian’s opening script for his inexperienced quarterback last week.
The Horns will be without two starters on Saturday — junior running back Quintrevion Wisner and sophomore defensive tackle Alex January, neither of whom was dressed for pregame warmups. On Friday, On3’s Pete Nakos reported that sophomore wide receiver Emmett Mosley will miss his second straight game due to injury.
