The marquee matchup of the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League opening stage will be the Final we were robbed of last season as reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain will face Hansi Flick’s Barcelona in Catalonia in the League Phase.
PSG coach Luis Enrique was asked about the matchup in a press conference on Friday, and revealed he has conflicting feelings about having to go up against the club he considers home and where he’s a legend both as a player and a coach.
“For me it’s a positive and negative
feeling. It’s nice to be back playing in Barcelona because it’s my home, and it’s great to play against them because they like to play good football, they’re attacking. But at the same time, if I speak from the heart, they’re the club that’s helped me the most and I’m not very happy about playing against them. It’s a difficult feeling to evaluate.”

This is the second time Lucho will face Barça as PSG manager after eliminating the Blaugrana in an epic quarter-final in 2024, and now they’ll meet in the League Phase in what very well might be a preview of a later matchup in the knockout rounds between two of the very best teams in Europe.
