Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
NFL Week 4 latest buzz, questions, news and fantasy tips – ESPN Which team most needs to be active in the trade market? Fowler: Injuries over the next month could be the big determining factor, but I usually start these conversations with the most aggressive general managers. Philadelphia’s Howie Roseman and Houston’s Nick Caserio have been among the most active dealmakers in recent years. While Roseman is usually trying to add, Caserio and the 0-3
Texans could be a few losses away from wanting to deal players for picks. I still think the Eagles might not be done at cornerback and could survey the market. […] Graziano: Another potentially available Dolphin I have my eye on is edge rusher Jaelan Phillips, a 2021 first-round pick who’s in the final year of his contract. If Miami decides to start moving players, Phillips is probably one of their more popular potential trade options. Fowler: Good call. Phillips has massive upside despite his injury history. He would fit in seamlessly somewhere, and pass rusher is always a focus for teams. To that end, could a team pry Trey Hendrickson out of Cincinnati? On a smaller scale, Azeez Ojulari is a healthy scratch right now in Philly.
Vic Fangio hints of looming change at starting cornerback – NBCSP
“I’ve told Kelee here recently, not in the last few days but since the end of camp, he’s going to get his opportunity at some point,” Fangio said. “And he’s got to be ready.” It’s an interesting thing to say. “Going to get.” Not “may get.” And Fangio wouldn’t say it if he didn’t mean it. Ringo didn’t play poorly last year when he did get opportunities. He played 179 defensive snaps and had a Pro Football Focus grade of 65.5, which ranked 60th out of 157 corners who played at least 100 defensive snaps. His 66.4 coverage grade ranked 55th out of 157. Fangio said Ringo handled losing the cornerback competition well and has improved since training camp ended. His main role in practice as the fourth corner is running scout team, and that’s not the easiest way to impress the coaches, but Fangio said he’s seen growth from both Ringo and rookie corner Mac McWilliams the last few weeks. Jackson was pretty bad against the Cowboys but has been better the last two weeks when he’s been able to stay on the field. But he’s 29 years old, in his ninth season and on a one-year contract. He also suffered a groin injury early in the fourth quarter and didn’t return to the game, so he may not even be available Sunday in Tampa. Either way, he’s clearly not the cornerback of the future. Ringo just turned 23 and he’s still got that great speed and size and those long arms. We see his speed, athleticism and physicality on special teams, where he’s played a team-high 62 snaps.
C.J. Gardner-Johnson released by Texans … but the Eagles seemingly can’t re-sign him – BGN
In a pretty surprising move, the Houston Texans are moving on from safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson after just three weeks of the 225 NFL season.
BREAKING NEWS: Texans Release S C.J. Gardner-Johnson – Battle Red Blog
According to Wilson, Gardner-Johnson had experienced friction in the Texans’ facility after, “….complaining about his role, wanting to blitz more, per league sources, and even communicating that he wanted to be traded.” Gardner-Johnson was in his first year with the Texans after being traded from the Philadelphia Eagles along with a 2026 sixth-round pick to Houston for former Texans guard Kenyon Green and a 2025 fifth-round pick in March. […] This news arrives just a day after the announcement that the NFL had removed Texans safety Jimmie Ward from the Commissioners’s exempt list after a grand jury in Texas decided not to indict him last week on charges of felony family assault brought forward by the mother of his child. Ward remains on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, but can be removed by next week.
NFC Hierarchy/Obituary: Week 4 edition – PhillyVoice
1) Eagles (3-0): In 2022, the Eagles were last remaining unbeaten team. In 2023, they and the 49ers were the last two unbeaten teams. In 2024, they won the Super Bowl. In 2025, they’re one of six teams to begin the season 3-0. I guess this is just yet another way of saying that the Eagles win a lot of games.
Eagles offense aims to be ‘aggressor’ under OC Kevin Patullo. Can they build on their comeback? – The Athletic
“You don’t go into it saying like, ‘Hey, I got to be really conservative here,’” Patullo said of his play-calling. “That’s definitely not, you know, something you want to do. I think it’s just a matter of just going forward, just learning from those moments and how to get ourselves out of those situations.” The Eagles did eventually get themselves out of those situations on Sunday. They drastically improved their play on early downs. They averaged 0.1 yards per play with a 14.3 success rate on first- and second-down in the first half, according to TruMedia. They averaged 5.7 yards per play with a 53.3 success rate in the second half. To Brown’s perspective, the Eagles found their rhythm after picking up the pace. They ran more no-huddle plays (22) than they did from the huddle (19) during the second half. Those 22 no-huddle plays were also more than they’d totaled in their first two games (16). There’s a logical explanation for the shift in pace: The Eagles were down 26-7 and didn’t have much time left. Patullo acknowledged that there’s “a little bit” of inherent change to play-calling when a team is down three scores, but he said the offensive success contained within those comeback drives isn’t owed to their circumstance. Patullo said the Eagles have had success going up-tempo in past seasons and even in the first two games this year. (They averaged 4.4 yards per up-tempo play in Weeks 1 and 2, per TruMedia.) The success begs the question of when the Eagles ought to go up-tempo — and for how long are they equipped and conditioned to push the pace.
Fantasy Football WR Report: Man, zone coverage performance ahead of NFL Week 4 – PFF
The Buccaneers have played man coverage at an above-average rate this season. They rank above average in limiting yards per coverage snap (4.73) and yards per coverage target (6.0) while in man. Both A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are seeing incredibly high target rates when the Eagles draw man coverage, which should continue this week and allow them to maintain their top-20 fantasy points per route run marks against man.
Bowen: If you thought the Eagles just got lucky, you should watch the second half again – PHLY
Overall, I think the Eagles’ victory had a lot to do with the fact that the team is led by Hurts. He hadn’t thrown a touchdown pass in the first two games. He threw three Sunday, all in the second half, all with that cool, clinical gaze. He converted third-and-long. He threw a perfect fourth-and-goal TD pass to give the Eagles the lead with 1:48 remaining. There’s a tiresome debate over Hurts, because the things that make him great often aren’t reflected in the charts and graphs that define so much of how sport is consumed these days. You won’t unlock the secret of Hurts’ effectiveness by logging onto PFF, TruMedia or Next Gen Stats. You have to watch the games. And listen. “This is very revealing about our team. Very revealing,” Hurts said. “A lot to learn from, but to be able to make plays when you need ‘em the most – there’s no such thing as luck. You make your own luck.”
2025 NFL Game of the Year rankings: Eagles, Lions can’t be denied with statement wins in Week 3 – NFL.com
3) With their most recent playoff exit top of mind, the Los Angeles Rams completely wrecked the Eagles for two quarters, holding the reigning Super Bowl champions to a putrid 33 total yards. The destruction continued early in the third, with the Los Angeles offense capitalizing on the extremely short field created by a Jared Verse strip-sack of Jalen Hurts to build a 26-7 lead. As my colleague and Rams radio color analyst Maurice Jones-Drew described the scene to me later: “The Linc was shook.” Then, little by little, it was like the Eagles remembered their identity as the most balanced and talented team in the NFL. Hurts went on an absolute tear in the second half, injecting life into the Eagles offense by finally getting A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert involved, hitting each of them for a score. Philly obliterated the Rams’ 19-point lead, cementing the comeback with a pair of field-goal blocks, one by Jalen Carter and the second by Jordan Davis, setting up one of the most indelible images of the season: Davis, at 336 pounds, rumbling 61 yards on the return for a touchdown as time expired to secure Philly’s third consecutive win. — Brooke Cersosimo
Fred Johnson: Staying true, giving back, and building a lasting legacy – PE.com
At 28 years old, Fred Johnson is more than an athlete. He is a mentor, a community builder, and a man deeply committed to shaping a legacy that extends far beyond the football field. Whether reflecting on his recovery routines, his college years, or his role in the community, Johnson speaks with sincerity and a sense of purpose that inspires both peers and youth. At a recent Mighty Writers event, where the Philadelphia Eagles donated $50,000 in recognition of the nonprofit’s impact, Johnson’s presence underscored why initiatives like this matter. Mighty Writers empowers children to think and write with clarity, and Johnson’s natural connection with the young people there reflected that mission perfectly. One student even said it felt like “talking to a big friend.” Johnson’s approach was full of intrigue. He asked questions, listened intently, and treated every response with care. For him, mentorship is not about lectures. It is about building trust and showing genuine interest.
Report: Mike Evans to miss time with hamstring injury – Bucs Nation
Evans missing time will certainly hurt the offense. He is such an important part of what they do and he helps other guys get open just because of how much attention he receives from opposing defenses. However, help could be on the way sooner rather than later as well. The potential return of Chris Godwin Jr will certainly help, but don’t expect the Bucs to throw Godwin Jr out there and have him play most of the snaps. He hasn’t played football in almost a full calendar year, and it is going to take some time to get back into the swing of things. Regardless though, his presence alone will help the banged-up Tampa offense.
Buccaneers add Desmond Watson to practice squad – PFT
Defensive tackle Desmond Watson is back with the Bucs. The 400-plus-pound lineman will be joining the Tampa Bay practice squad, according to Greg Auman of Fox Sports. […] The move comes as the Buccaneers prepare to face the Eagles and the tush push. On Monday, coach Todd Bowles told reporters Watson wouldn’t be added simply to stop Philly’s signature play. Bowles added that it’s unlikely Watson will be ready to play by Sunday.
Washington Commanders Injury Update: Terry McLaurin seeking second opinion for quad injury – Hogs Haven
Dan Quinn didn’t give an update on McLaurin’s injury when he talked to reporters yesterday, but Adam Schefter is reporting that he’s getting a second opinion and he’s uncertain to play the Falcons in Atlanta on Sunday. McLaurin is Washington’s #1 WR and he spent most of the summer trying to get a new contract to get paid like one. His numbers for the season have been improving each week, but an injury deflates that weekly improvement.
Cowboys Point/Counterpoint: Jerry Jones’ playoff optimism is delusional – Blogging The Boys
Tom: No, Jerry. Just no. While it is not completely impossible for the team to get into the postseason, the chances are about equal to my going into space. The offense may be playoff caliber, although that part of the team took a clear step back on Sunday and is showing a disturbing trend of disappearing in the second half. But the defense is in contention for being one of the worst ever for Dallas. Consider this. Russell Wilson has looked bad against his other two opponents, and absolutely went off against the Cowboys. Caleb Williams has looked bad against his other two opponents, and had arguably the best game of his young career on Sunday. Both did it because of two things: They had almost no pressure from the Dallas pass rush, and the secondary left receivers repeatedly wide open deep and in the end zone. Those issues would definitely have to be fixed for Dallas to make the playoffs, and there is no sign of Matt Eberflus having a clue how to fix them. Jerry is just spreading his normal bull manure.
Jaxson Dart is the Giants’ starter, but is he ready? – Big Blue View
Is he ready? That’s the dilemma in which Brian Daboll has found himself. The Giants have (or perhaps “had”) a plan for developing Dart and likely wanted him to incubate at his own pace. They’ve been adamant that Dart has impressed at every step of the way and he had hit the marks they set for him over the summer. However, the offense has been failing and fans were chanting “We Want Dart!” while Russell Wilson was on the field. So ready or not, the pressure was on to make the change. So let’s take a closer look at Dart’s work in the preseason and see what he did well, as what he (hopefully) spent the last month working on.
Jaxson Dart named Giants QB as Brian Daboll is running out of time – SB Nation
Now the Giants turn to Dart with Dabol, under increasing pressure to keep his job, forced to turn to the rookie perhaps earlier than many expected. And the schedule remains as daunting as it was when the slate was originally announced. After facing the 3-0 Chargers this weekend at home, New York heads to New Orleans to take on the 0-3 Saints, perhaps a reprieve for the young QB. Following that game? The Giants face the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7, the Denver Broncos and their imposing defense in Week 8, and then the Eagles again in Week 9. Not exactly the easiest path for a rookie. But given Wilson’s play on Sunday, Daboll was running out of options. And perhaps time.
