Barcelona remain perfect to start the season and have made it eight wins out of eight in La Liga thanks to a very comfortable 3-0 victory at home to Getafe on Saturday evening. Anthony Gordon scored his first goal for the club just a few seconds into the action, allowing the leaders to cruise through the 90 minutes and easily clinch all three points to kick off a stretch of key games with a solid win at home.
The best thing to do against such a defensive team
as Getafe is to score early, and Barça found the net just 90 seconds into the action as Anthony Gordon received the ball at the edge of the box, dribbled past two defenders and fired a deflected shot into the net to open his Barça account.
Getafe didn’t change their plan despite conceding early and sat very deep to avoid further damage, while Barça could afford to be patient, keep the ball and slowly but surely try to increase their lead. The Catalans had over 80% possession throughout the half, and still found spaces and chances despite facing a parked bus.
The second goal came midway through the period as Gabriel Jesus won the ball inside the Getafe box and scored a very good solo goal to double the Blaugrana lead, and the home team were fully in control. Getafe offered zero threat on the break even down two goals, and Barça were comfortably ahead at the break.
The game was so easy for Barça that the home team came out a bit flat to start the second half, allowing Getafe a couple of half-chances as the visitors tried to get back in the game with an early goal. A long effort from Mojica that hit the side netting ended up being their best moment, but Getafe’s early momentum quickly dissipated.
Barça regained control of the ball and the action slowed down considerably as the Blaugrana were clearly looking to save their energy for the big games ahead and not get out of second gear. The hosts still managed to create danger, however, and found a third goal thanks to a great cross from Lamine Yamal and a nice half-volley finish from Jules Kounde.
The final whistle came to end a very comfortable night for a Barça team that made things really easy for themselves with the early goal and controlled the action from start to finish. It’s a strong start to a crucial two-week stretch, and it makes sure the leaders stay five points clear at the top. Well done, boys!
