What is the story about?

The Detroit Lions may have already established a 53-man roster, but if you ask anyone in the building, they’ll talk about how the roster is actually 69 players. That’s because the Lions value their practice squad more than most. It’s not just a place to stash players in case of injuries or a list of players that may or may not develop into NFL players. For the Lions, the practice squad is simply an extension of the 53-man roster, and there’s a pretty good chance you’ll get to the gameday roster at some

point this season.

“You’re not just out here, you’re not just a token body,” Campbell said during training camp. “We need to see you compete and win because those are important for us. Guys have made the roster, guys that we’ve brought up from practice squad or that were on the roster, they’re 52, 53, and now all of a sudden they get elevated to go to the game because they’ve proven it. So, that’s important to us.”
