The details of Rutgers’ new offensive line coach Jim Turner’s contract have been revealed thanks to an OPRA request made by NJ.com/NJ Advanced Media and subsequent reporting from Brian Fonseca.
Turner signed
a two-year deal with Rutgers that will run through the 2027 season. He will get paid $500k in 2026 and $550k in 2027. His base salary over those two years will total $1,050,000.
Turner, who has over 30 years of coaching experience that includes NFL stints with the Dolphins and Bengals, will be tasked with filling the shoes of Pat Flaherty, who helped bring the Rutgers offensive line up to the Big Ten level. Turner’s most recent coaching experience was with the UFL’s Showboats.
During his time as a college offensive line coach at Texas A&M and Boston College, Turner helped send several offensive linemen to the NFL. Of the 11 players drafted under his watch, OT Gosder Cherilus, OT Anthony Castonzo, OT Luke Joeckel, OT Jake Matthews, and OT Cedric Ogbuehi were drafted in the first round. Castonzo, in particular, had a very good NFL career, serving as the best option on an otherwise awful Colts offensive line tasked with protecting Andrew Luck.
His offensive line at Texas A&M helped pave the way for Trayveon Williams to lead the SEC in rushing in 2018 with 1,760 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns.
He also has experience working with Rutgers offensive coordinator Kirk Ciarrocca, as Ciarrocca was the offensive coordinator during his stint at Delaware.
Turner has already gotten involved with recruiting, meeting with several recruits himself, with the hopes that he can sway their opinions in the Knights’ favor.
