Liverpool came close to signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle a few summers ago, with options including a potential £75M transfer and a deal involving Joe Gomez going the other way reaching advanced stages before Newcastle pulled out of the deal and Liverpool moved on.
In recent months, amidst growing rumblings that this season will be Gordon’s last on Tyneside and with Bayern Munich widely rumoured to be his main suitors, there have been attempts by the rumour mongers to revive the story. However,
according to The Athletic’s James Pearce, the Reds have moved on and don’t consider Gordon a target for the summer.
Claims of a Liverpool revival of interest had come out of Germany via notoriously unreliable Bild head writer Christian Falk, whom Liverpool fans may remember from the time he loudly insisted Florian Wirtz was still a Bayern lock up until the moment he was unveiled as a Liverpool player.
According to the new English chatter, Chelsea could offer an alternative to Gordon should he wish to remain in England, but recent moves of Premier League stars Luis Diaz and especially fellow Englishman Harry Kane do suggest an increasingly viable pathway to join the German champions for players like Gordon seeking a new challenge.
