To the naked eye, Bayern Munich plays with a ton of energy and is constantly moving.
Pressing, making forward runs, recovery runs, and its general activity appear to be off the charts — and the hard numbers back that up per Bild (via @iMiaSanMia):
Bayern’s intense style of play under Vincent Kompany is shown in numbers — Bayern players ran a total of 736 kilometers in the first six Bundesliga matchdays this season — more than any other team. In addition, they completed 4,395 intensive runs and 1,112
sprints, both league records as well. In comparison in 2023/24, Bayern players ran the fewest kilometers, performed the second fewest intensive runs and were only ranked 14th in the number of sprints.
It is true, Bayern Munich is wearing down its opponents and pulling away from them with its general movement and willingness to just outwork the opposition. It is quite remarkable to say the least.
However, there could be a downside to that if injuries start to mount. Hopefully that does not happen, but Kompany could look to lean on his bench players a bit more over the course of the season to ease the workload on his starters and help alleviate that concern.
Bayern Munich might be off, but the news cycle surrounding the club is red-hot.
There are some big items to discuss, so let’s not waste any time. This is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show:
- Did Harry Kane throw some cold water on the thoughts of a contract extension with Bayern Munich? As it turns out, the Bavarians might not want to pay him anyway.
- Is Max Eberl in line for a promotion with Bayern Munich? Would it be too much for him to take on.
- Hot or Not? Harkening back to some nonsense from the beginning of the internet, let’s determine an early prediction on which Bayern Munich players will be back for 2026/27.
