Bayern Munich executive board member for sport Max Eberl shed light on where negotiations stand with right-back Konrad Laimer — or rather, why they are currently at an apparent standstill.
“We would like to extend Konny’s contract. Talks have taken place, but things are currently on hold,” Eberl shared in comments captured by @iMiaSanMia. “But that’s not a problem, there’s no resentment or ill will. We have our own ideas, and they have their own ideas, and those ideas have to align.
“Right now they
don’t, but that’s okay. We’re extremely happy that he’s back, that he’s healthy again, and that he’s now available.”
BFW Analysis
When it comes to contracts, it is easy to be on edge from the perspective outside looking in. Why hasn’t it happened yet? Why isn’t it easy? Why is the club ‘losing’?
But oftentimes, that is responding to signals put out there by one or another interested party on the inside — a negotiations tactic conducted in public. Right now neither side is hinting at discord, and there is plenty of time left for talks to eventually progress one way or another. Eberl is right: it’s perfectly normal for the parties not to be aligned at this time. And it is probably a good sign that both sides appear to appreciate one another.
In other words, relax. There’s a long way to go before this actually turns south.
