The Villans have been on incredible form this season, with only three losses in 17 Premier League matches — two of which way back in August. However they haven’t been really solid in recent away matches,
which included narrow wins against Brighton and West Ham this month.
Their gameplan against Chelsea which amounted to letting the home side dominate all stages of the pitch with no answer in kind was still baffling. The consequence was obvious: a Chelsea goal right before the end of the first half, with João Pedro “pivoting” Reece James’ extremely well-taken corner kick into the back of the net.
An one-goal lead heading into half-time was good, but not ideal given the amount of chances we wasted to get it. Especially when you have Aston Villa on the opposite side who have become specialists in taking narrow margins and turning them into slim victories.
Once the Villans kicked into gear on the back of a few adjustments from Unai Emery we got a taste of that with Ollie Watkins scoring their equaliser. Enzo Maresca tried to answer in kind with a triple sub of his own but Watkins got them the upper hand.
- Reece James starts as right-back, with Moisés Caicedo and Enzo Fernández forming the midfield pivot.
- What what.
- …Watkins. And we’re the butt of the joke.
- Next up: Bournemouth at home in the Premier League.
- KTBFFH.
