Bayern Munich issued a release indicating that captain Manuel Neuer’s injured calf is still not healed enough to play in the DFB-Pokal. Neuer will travel with the team, but will not be a part of the game day squad:
FC Bayern set off for Berlin on Friday morning with a squad of 21 players. The Munich men face VfB Stuttgart in the DFB Cup final at the Olympiastadion on Saturday (20:00 CEST). Manuel Neuer will not be available for the game due to a problem in his left calf. However, Jonas Urbig, Sven
Ulreich and Jannis Bärtl have been included in the squad.
In addition to Neuer, FC Bayern will be missing Serge Gnabry (torn adductor muscle in his right thigh) and Alphonso Davies (muscle injury) for the cup final. Neuer, Gnabry and Davies will travel to Berlin on Saturday to support the team in their quest to win the cup.
Our squad for the cup final! 🏆
Manuel Neuer will not yet be available to Bayern against the Swabians due to muscular problems in his left calf. In his place, Jonas Urbig, Sven Ulreich, and Jannis Bärtl are in the squad.
Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg had previously posted an update on Neuer’s status, indicating he would miss the match:
🚨❌ EXCL | Manuel Neuer will miss the DFB-Pokal final on Saturday in Berlin against VfB Stuttgart due to injury (left calf). Jonas Urbig will replace him.
The recovery process is going very well. However, there is still a remaining risk. Manuel Neuer does not want to take that risk – also with the World Cup in mind. @Sky_Torben @SkySportDE
