The past few months have seen Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon consistently linked with a move to Bayern Munich in the summer, but nothing is ever straightforward in the land of transfers and with the season now over that story has found two big names added to the Gordon chase.
The first name to get dropped in today was Barcelona, with the likes of here we go merchant Fabrizio Romano saying that the Catalan giants were big on Gordon and Gordon was big on them. Then, the English press, including Liverpool-connected
Paul Joyce at The Times put the reds in the mix.
At the moment most of the chatter seems to be coming from the Barcelona side of things, with the addition of Liverpool not looking like a case of the club themselves seeking to put the information out. Regardless, Liverpool have previously been considered Gordon’s likeliest destination.
In past seasons, it’s always been Liverpool that boyhood fan Gordon has been linked to most often, and a proposed deal that would have seen Gordon join the Reds for a big bag of cash while Joe Gomez went the other way for a smaller bag of cash fell apart at the last minute a few years ago.
Despite how long Reds fans might feel he’s been linked, Gordon is still just 25 years old. He scored 17 goals and five assists in 46 appearances last season with a goal involvement every 130 minutes, hard numbers for Liverpool fans to turn their noses up at given the club’s needs at the pointy end.
