It was three weeks ago that the Suns handed the Spurs their first loss of the season, a 130-118 drubbing at the Mortgage Matchup Center, ending their record-breaking five game winning streak to open the 2025-2016 campaign. Victor Wembanyama had an off
night, and tonight he has the night off, as he’s recovering from a calf strain. Stephon Castle was the leading scorer in the previous game, and he’s also out, along with Dylan Harper and Jordan McLaughlin, who logged significant time in that contest. There’s one constant in the Spurs roster this year, which is Harrison, who always shows up, especially at the end of games. De’Aaron Fox didn’t play in the first game, but he has been playing for a couple of weeks and seems to have shaken off the rust from his extended absence from playing basketball. Jeremy Sochan is back, and tonight would be a great opportunity for him to show up as one of the team’s most versatile players, and it’s most tenacious defender. David Jones Garcia has provided some valuable minutes at guard as three of the top four guards have been out with injuries, and he could get some time tonight in Phoenix.
The Suns look to have gotten their act together after a slow start to the season, and are slowly creeping up into the Western Conference playoff picture. Collin Gillespie has taken over as the starting point guard and is turning the Phoenix halfcourt offense into a dangerous weapon with his court vision and opportunistic scoring. Devin Booker is an elite scorer who always torches the the Spurs, whose main defensive weakness this year has been covering shooters at the perimeter. That’s going to have to be better tonight to get a win over the Suns. The good news is that this will be the last time the Spurs will play Phoenix on the road this season, their two remaining games will be February 19 in Austin, and March 19 in the Frost Bank Center.
Game Prediction:
Sochan will block three Booker three point shots, including one at the buzzer.
GO SPURS GOOOO!!!
