Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong will miss Thursday’s Copa del Rey tie against Racing due to suspension after being sent off in the final of the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday against Real Madrid.
The
Netherlands international was shown a straight red card late on in the game for a challenge on Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe that will result in a one-game ban.
De Jong will therefore have to sit out the Copa del Rey fixture, although it’s likely Hansi Flick will make changes to his team for the match as his side take on lower-tier opposition.
Both Marc Casado and Marc Bernal will be hoping for minutes in the match after finding game time hard to come by so far this season.
Meanwhile, De Jong will be available once again next weekend when Barcelona return to action in La Liga against Real Sociedad on Sunday at the Reale Arena.
