The Royals continued their good form across the festive period with a 1-1 draw against Peterborough United at the Western Homes Stadium on Monday.
Daniel Kyerewaa gave the Royals the lead in the first half
but Peterborough equalised through Gustav Lindgren late on to share the points.
The point moves us up to the top half of the table, in 10th, but we still sit three points off the relegation zone.
Manager Leam Richardson believed the point was hard-fought. Here is what he had to say, he spoke to the official club website.
Richardson on the performance
“It was a very hard-fought point, coming back off the coach a couple of days ago from Plymouth into another game away from home.
“I thought all the good basics, the blocks, tackles, headers and races were the most pleasing thing. I thought we played miles better against them at home and lost. In the second half, we are using our squad now and I thought they were all on the pitch doing their best. It was a well-earned point.
“It was pleasing. Keep knocking on the door, it was something we identified that we had to get better at. You have to take ownership and accountability of and we have to grow with our job spec, not only within set plays but around the pitch.
“In the first half, we were really good and a strong counter-attacking team. We could have been better with the ball, and we spoke about that at half-time, but the crowd got behind them, and we dropped 10 yards deeper than what we wanted.
“We defended our goal resiliently and we nearly caught them at the end, which would have been really pleasing.”
Richardson on the festive period and Burton on Thursday
“Any point in this league away from home is a very positive point. We get off the coach from Plymouth for a big journey on Boxing Day and then back in, on the pitch and 72 hours later at Peterborough.
“These lads have done really well, and we have to go again and be judged in another 72 hours. It is important what we do from now, leave the changing rooms as spotless and clean as we can and do our work to address Burton Albion as best we can.”
